Behind the Scenes | Daisy

In this behind-the-scenes feature, we take you behind the scenes of the short fiction film 'Daisy'. This film is the final project of a school assignment created by students from St. Joost, School of Art & Design.

The film's story is about a man named Liam who works at a tech lab specializing in AI & robotics, and an AI named Daisy. Due to a coding error, Daisy becomes self-aware and gains a robotic body. As a result, she quickly realizes that humanity is destroying the world. She wants to stop this by reducing the population, with Liam being her first victim.

The crew managed to shoot the film in one day, using, among other things, equipment from Budgetcam. All footage was shot on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K with the Samyang Xeen prime lens set: 24mm, 50mm, and 85mm. Most of the footage was captured with the 24mm and 50mm lenses.

The entire setup consisted of the Blackmagic camera, the aforementioned lenses, and a Shape Shoulder rig with a Tilta magic arm. A Ninja V monitor was used as the main display, and a Lilliput monitor was used as an additional viewing monitor.

For lighting, they used the powerful Aputure Nova p600C. This RGB LED panel was essentially the backbone of the film, providing the entire look and feel. As a result, almost no colour grading was necessary.
